The Trump coup I predicted is underway- what happens now?
Okay I’m not clairvoyant. I predicted that Trump would launch a coup in my previous piece because it was being planned in plain sight on social media. Dozens of troll accounts and sites linked to the Republican Party, Russia and Trump were pumping out a fairy tale that Trump could use to launch his attack on democracy. George Soros was supposedly planning a coup to turn the US into a Marxist state. He had previously, they said, overthrown the government of Ukraine by financing the protests. Trump obviously planned to use this fantasy to claim that the vote was rigged AGAINST him, and then rig the vote in his favor. What happens now?
Trump will try and get the vote overturned wherever he can to secure a majority in the Electoral College. He is unlikely to succeed but a hard core of supporters will believe him. Indeed many senior figures in the Republican party will pretend that the election was stolen from him. The House Homeland Security and Governmental, Affairs Committee which remains under the control of Giuliani ally Ron Johnson, will be used to pump out the same message.
